BIOGRAPHIE :

Matyáš Novák, who has celebrated his 22nd birthday this year, began to play the piano at the age of 5. He graduated from Grammar School J. K. Tyl in Hradec Kralove and the Pardubice Conservatoire, where he studied in the class of prof. Jitka Fowler Fraňková. Currently he is attending the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, specifically the class conducted by prof. Ivan Klánský. He is also a student at the renowned piano academy “Incontri col Maestro“ in Imola, Italy, where he is studying with prof. Boris Petrushansky.

He has won several national and international competitions; he is also the first-prize winner of International Radio Competition for Young Musicians Concertino Praga (2015) in the duo category, holds Grand Prix in the Tjiarri International Piano Competition in Larnace (Cyprus, 2015), has won the Competition of conservatoires and grammar schools in the Czech Republic (2016),  Jenö Takács Klavierwettbewerb (Austria, 2016), Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition (USA, 2017). In 2018 he finished second and was awarded Steinway Prize in the International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition in Bergen, Norway. Matyas’s latest achievement is the place amongst 14 semi-finalists in the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht, the Netherlands, which was, however, postponed to November this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Matyas tours both at home and abroad and has given recitals in a lot of countries in Europe, Thailand and the USA. Between 2015 and 2016 he undertook two successful concert tours in China. In 2017 he debuted in Carnegie Hall, New York. In the same year he released his first album Franz Liszt: Années de pèlerinage: Première année: Suisse and became one of the three musicians who received CME International Performing Arts Grant awarded by the Center for Musical Excellence in New Jersey.

He has given a solo performance with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra, the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonics, the Chamber Orchestra Quattro, the Orchestra da Camera di Imola, the Janáček Chamber Orchestra.

He regularly attends master classes  (V. Askhenazy, D. Bashkirov, A. Bonatta, J. Dvarionas, G. Gruzman, I. Klánský, D. Kuyken, A. Kouyoumdjian, A. Lonquich, L.Margarius, A. Siirala) and is invited to music festivals both at home and abroad: Znojmo Music Festival (2010), South Bohemian Festival Concertino Praga (2012, 2013, 2015), Broumov´s Searching Treasures (2013), II Festival internacional de música de Sóller (Spain, 2014), Junior Academy Eppan (Italy, 2015), Imola Summer Piano Academy & Festival (Italy, 2015),  Ibiza International Music Festival (Spain, 2015, 2017), International Music Festival Young Prague (2015), Monastic Music Festivals (2017, 2018), Chopin Festival Mariánské Lázně (2017), International Festival Pardubice Music Spring (2018), Talentinum Zlín (2018), Vienna Concerto Fest (Austria, 2018), the Winter Chamber Music Festival in Røros (Norway, 2019), International Music Festival Prague Spring (2019), Bratislava Music Festival (Slovakia, 2019), Bangkok International Piano Festival 2019 (Thailand, 2019).

Matyas is a versatile artist, sought-after chamber player and accompanist, a proud member of the PETROF Art Family, a big expert and fan of rail transport, and a member of the Czech Breeders Association.
