Sofia Tiar
Member of the jury 2027

Sofia Tiar began studying piano at a very young age—at 7—in Algiers, where she studied under Irina Smolina, a Russian pianist and student of Lev Oborin who had won the Marguerite-Long and Chopin competitions. On her teacher’s advice, Sofia moved to Paris and studied with the renowned pedagogue Pierre Sancan, then with Eliane Richepin at the Université Musicale Internationale de Paris, while furthering her studies in musicology at Paris IV Sorbonne. At the same time, she pursued a degree in physics and earned her diplomas from the IAE Paris Sorbonne Business School. She took a long break from playing the piano, during which time she turned to computer science and quickly assumed senior leadership roles at major CAC 40 companies in the digital sector, such as Euriware, a subsidiary of Areva, where in 2008 she served as Director of Development and later as Director of the Systems Integration Division, and in 2012 she joined the Capgemini Group as Executive Vice President. After a long hiatus due to her managerial responsibilities, she returned to her original passion, the piano, and honed her skills under the guidance of Victoria and Rena Shereshevskaya, with whom she regained the high level of proficiency she had in her early days, enabling her to give recitals and perform with her chamber music partners. She also won first prize in the “Concert Artist” category at the Ile-de-France International Competition, while performing regularly in concert, notably at events such as the Buc Romantic Festival and at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. Recognized for her skills as a manager and accomplished artist, she was appointed President of the Conservatory of the City of Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche and, most recently, President of the Saint-Germain Orchestra.
