Ludovic Rucosa
Member of the jury 2027

Ludovic Rucosa, who holds a Ph.D. in musicology, is a trumpeter and a jury member for national and international competitions. He is a musician, musicologist, and director of several French conservatories. His career has focused on the administration of music education institutions, pedagogy, and the development of regional artistic projects. Ludovic Rucosa began his musical journey with the trumpet and musical culture. Passionate about theoretical and historical research, he pursued advanced studies in music, which led him to earn a Ph.D. in musicology.
His career in administration quickly shifted toward managing arts education institutions: the Darius-Milhaud Conservatory in Paris, where, at the age of 25, he became director and remained for more than twelve years, working notably with composer Roger Tessier. Then, in 2013, he was appointed Director of the Villeneuve-sur-Lot School of Music, which would later be renamed the Béla Bartók Conservatory. His primary mission was to restructure the institution to obtain accreditation from the Ministry of Culture, transforming the school into a Conservatory with Intermunicipal Reach.
During his seven-year tenure, he promoted a teaching approach based on personal growth, regular choral singing, and the principle of “playing while having fun.” He returned to the Paris region, where he was appointed Director of Studies at a major institution, the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Cergy-Pontoise, where he was involved in the academic supervision of students as well as in the institution’s accreditation process to become a Pôle Supérieur d’enseignement.
In 2020, Ludovic Rucosa joined the Cergy-Pontoise Regional Conservatory, where he serves as director of academic affairs and also acts as interim director. At this institution—one of the leading centers for specialized arts education in the Île-de-France region—he is particularly committed to pedagogical issues, supporting students, and developing higher education pathways.
In 2023, he returned to the Darius-Milhaud Conservatory in Paris, this time as its director. This return to his roots has allowed him to apply his experience to a new educational and artistic initiative, with the goal of strengthening the ties between teaching, creation, collective practice, and cultural outreach. He currently heads this institution, where he continues to champion a rigorous, dynamic, and accessible approach to music education.
Across the full range of his responsibilities, Ludovic Rucosa advocates for an open and interdisciplinary approach to music education. He places particular emphasis on group activities, choral singing, projects conducted with schools, and initiatives that bring conservatories closer to their local communities. His approach is rooted in a commitment to combining artistic quality with the transmission and democratization of music.
His pedagogical expertise and experience with musical institutions also lead him to serve on various juries for national and international competitions, where he is valued for his musical insight, high standards, and personal qualities. Through his various roles, Ludovic Rucosa has established himself as a committed advocate for the transmission of music, dedicated to a simple yet essential idea: giving everyone the opportunity to encounter music, to practice it, and to flourish through it.
