Born in Rueil-Malmaison (France), Bertrand Boissard began learning the clarinet at the age of eight, before studying piano with Ivan Darel at the ENM in Mantes-la-Jolie. After studying sociology (at Paris X - Nanterre and Paris V - René Descartes), he spent seven years as Communications Manager for a national orchestra. As a music critic for Diapason magazine since 2010, he has been in charge of the instruments section and writes mainly about the piano, reviewing recordings, concerts and festivals; history, analysis and comparative discography of masterpieces from the repertoire; interviews, etc. Co-founder of the website parlonspiano.com in 2013, he has contributed to several publications: La Lettre du Mélomane, Ramdam, Divento, Pianiste magazine, etc. A regular contributor to France Musique's Tribune des critiques de disques, he also writes programme notes and artist profiles for various national and international musical institutions (Salle Pleyel, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Philharmonie de Paris, Grands interprètes à Toulouse, Radio-France, Philharmonie du Luxembourg, etc.), as well as notes for recordings (Sony, Mirare, La Dolce volta, Aparté, etc.). He hosts round tables (Cité de la Musique, Paris, etc.) and is a guest at various public events (Radio-France Festival in Montpellier, etc.).
​He also gives lectures (in Warsaw, during the Chopin Competition, etc.) and regularly serves as a member of juries for international competitions.
